I had travelled to Andaman and Nicobar Islands during this summer. There we visited ROSS ISLAND.
Ross island, is located about 2 km east of Port Blair. It used to be Administrative Headquarters and was also the capital of Andaman & Nicobar Islands during British rule. Also Japanese had their hold on this Island during WW-2.
Today this Island has remains of the “colonized” buildings that Britishers made. Also there are around 22 bunkers which Japanese army made during their stay.
During visit to this Island, we saw ruins of houses, churches, military buildings, graveyard, swimming pool, bakeries, hospitals, tennis courts, etc. One of the amazing thing which we saw was the water filtration plant that was set up by Britishers; that used to purify the saline water to pure water which could be used for drinking purpose.
Also on this island, there’s lot of greenery and old trees.. spanning over large extends. There are also approximately 400 deers in the island. Indian Navy feeds them everyday in afternoon on shores of these island.
Also an fabulous light show is there in evening which depicts the history of this magnificent island.
Overall, its a place one must visit during there trip to The Marvelous Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
